Position Overview:
Applied Research Associates (ARA) is on the lookout for a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer specializing in the physics of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) to enhance the U.S. Navy's modeling, simulation, and testing initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of UUV systems, including both remotely operated and autonomous vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct modeling and simulation tasks, focusing on analysis, development, verification, and validation.
Essential Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related discipline, coupled with 8-10 years of experience in UUV physics.
- U.S. Citizenship with the capability to secure a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Proven experience in physics-based engineering modeling and simulation.
- Expertise in implementing third-party UUV physics models and simulations grounded in theoretical and empirical data.
- Experience in creating and executing real-time, high-fidelity physics models for UUV applications.
- Capability to verify and validate UUV physics models against physical test data.
- Experience in modeling underwater environments and understanding factors influencing UUV operations.
- Proficient in preparing research documentation, technical proposals, and formal presentations, along with data interpretation.
- Strong command of MS Office Suite and programming languages such as Python, C++, and Fortran.
- Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with U.S. Navy UUVs or comparable systems.
- Familiarity with the Naval Autonomy Test System (NATS), NATS Integrated Management System (NIMS), and/or Virtual Maritime Autonomy Test Environment (VMATE).
- Experience in developing or utilizing Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) applications.
- Background in creating and testing digital twin environments.
- Experience in surveying underwater environments and gathering data for testing purposes.
- Possession of an active DoD Secret security clearance.
