Position Overview:
Applied Research Associates (ARA) is in search of a Senior Engineer/Researcher with expertise in unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) systems to enhance the US Navy's modeling, simulation, and testing initiatives. We are looking for a professional with extensive knowledge in UUV systems, including both remotely operated and autonomous vehicles, as well as proficiency in machine learning and artificial intelligence. This role involves leading a research team to address current challenges in UUV technology and explore innovative capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team of experts on the design, architecture, testing, and development of UUVs.
- Utilize theoretical and practical knowledge of UUV operations, encompassing mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, sensors, and controls.
- Conduct data collection in underwater environments using both custom and third-party sensor systems.
- Develop and execute UUV tests and evaluations to refine models and simulations.
- Prepare comprehensive research reports, technical proposals, and formal presentations, while effectively interpreting data.
- Work independently or as part of a diverse team to achieve project goals.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline with 8-10 years of experience in UUV systems.
- U.S. Citizenship and eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- In-depth understanding of UUV design, modification, testing, and operations.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with U.S. Navy UUVs or comparable systems.
- Familiarity with the Naval Autonomy Test System (NATS) and related environments.
- Background in developing Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) applications.
- Experience in testing for digital twin environments and surveying underwater settings.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance.
