Position Overview:
Applied Research Associates (ARA) is on the lookout for a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer with extensive expertise in the physics of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). This role is crucial in advancing the U.S. Navy's initiatives in UUV modeling, simulation, and testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct comprehensive modeling and simulation activities, focusing on analysis, development, verification, and validation.
Essential Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related discipline, coupled with 8-10 years of experience in UUV physics.
- U.S. Citizenship with the capability to secure a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Proven experience in physics-based engineering modeling and simulation.
- Ability to implement third-party UUV physics models and simulations grounded in theoretical and empirical data.
- Expertise in developing and executing real-time, high-fidelity physics models for UUVs.
- Experience in verifying and validating UUV physics models against empirical test data.
- Proficient in modeling underwater environments and understanding factors influencing UUV operations.
- Skilled in preparing research documentation, technical proposals, and formal presentations, along with data interpretation.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and programming languages such as Python, C++, and Fortran.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously or collaboratively within diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with U.S. Navy UUVs or similar systems.
- Familiarity with the Naval Autonomy Test System (NATS), NATS Integrated Management System (NIMS), and/or Virtual Maritime Autonomy Test Environment (VMATE).
- Experience in developing or utilizing Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) applications.
- Background in developing and testing digital twin environments.
- Experience in surveying underwater environments and collecting relevant data for testing purposes.
- Possession of an active DoD Secret security clearance.
