Responsibilities:
As a Laboratory Technician I, you will be tasked with preparing specimens for examination and organizing the necessary tests. Your role will involve:

  • Preparing and accurately labeling reagents essential for laboratory analyses.
  • Conducting genetic evaluations of biological samples such as blood, saliva, and tissue to identify any abnormal sequence variations.
  • Reviewing test outcomes for quality control, maintaining clear and organized work records, and inputting results into the laboratory information systems.
  • Executing routine preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment following established protocols.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of instruments by performing checks and calibrations, documenting any repairs or maintenance conducted.
  • Participating in the training of new staff members as needed.
  • Adhering to laboratory safety regulations and procedures.

The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be adjusted as necessary. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing is advantageous.

Skills Required:
Experience in a clinical laboratory setting with some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical irritants is essential. You will be required to wear protective lab attire, including a lab coat, gloves, face shield, and closed-toe footwear. Flexibility in working hours, including shifts outside of standard daytime hours and potential weekend rotations, may be necessary. Travel is not a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates regular sitting, keyboard usage, typing, and occasional movement within the laboratory. Candidates must possess manual dexterity for operating lab equipment and be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Educational Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in biology or a related scientific field is required, along with either two years of relevant experience or completion of a molecular genetics training program, one year of experience in a molecular genetics laboratory, and ASCP certification.

Language Proficiency:
Proficiency in English is required for reading, writing, and speaking.
