SUMMARY:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering essential nursing services aimed at ensuring the comfort and health of patients. This role involves providing specific nursing care to Medical Surgical patients under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN will assist in various patient care tasks including medication administration, patient assessments, dressing changes, and other essential duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The LPN will:

  • Deliver direct patient care and assist patients with daily living activities, promoting independence when suitable.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and collaborate with other healthcare professionals as necessary to optimize patient care.
  • Communicate the hospital's philosophy, policies, and procedures to patients and their families.
  • Work alongside registered nurses to identify the educational needs of patients and implement relevant instructional activities.
  • Encourage patient involvement in procedures and techniques by demonstrating relevant practices.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting the type of instruction provided and other critical information.
  • Alert the physician on call regarding any unusual occurrences, changes in patient conditions, or issues requiring direct consultation.
  • Assess the effectiveness of patient care and adjust nursing processes as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Provide appropriate patient care in designated areas while adhering to aseptic techniques.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures related to patient care.
  • Consult with Infection Control under the supervision of the registered nurse to implement infection control measures.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the area to ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and standards, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental safety, confidentiality, and values policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program or a technical/vocational school.

EXPERIENCE: Preferred two (2) years of practical nursing experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: A valid LPN license to practice in the state of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required. Additional certifications may be necessary based on departmental needs.

  • Competence in delivering patient care within a hospital environment.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Capability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective listening and communication skills for accurate interpretation of instructions.
  • Mathematical skills for calculating figures and interpreting data.
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
