Regional Sales Manager Job Description

Tandem Diabetes Care is a leader in the diabetes technology industry, and we're looking for a talented Regional Sales Manager to join our team. As a Regional Sales Manager, you will be responsible for developing sales goals and objectives for each territory, selecting and retaining regional field personnel, and directing them to achieve and/or exceed assigned sales goals and objectives.

This is a field-based position that will be responsible for our Chicago, IL territory. As a Regional Sales Manager, you will:

  • Ensure all field personnel are meeting or exceeding all objectives set, including revenue-based and market development objectives.
  • Work with the Area Director to establish sales objectives by creating a sales plan and quota for Territories in the assigned Region in support of corporate sales objectives.
  • Achieve Regional financial objectives by analyzing Regional revenue in relation to direct selling expenses and preparing and completing action plans to address trends, resolve problems, improve Regional sales systems and processes, and affect change.
  • Partner with the Regional Clinical Manager (RCM) for the assigned region to assure timely and accurate clinical training outcomes for customers and accounts.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to foster communication and understanding with field and clinical sales.
  • Effectively promote Tandem's unique market position, differentiation from competitors.
  • Build and maintain rapport with key customers and KOLs; expand customer base through market development, including presentation of education programs.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to Territory Managers and Clinical Diabetes Specialists through Field Coaching Reports during regular field visits and provide feedback after sales calls, presentations, etc., in order to improve technical and selling skills.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing of Clinical Diabetes Specialists within each Territory to facilitate the sales process based on established guidelines.
  • Maintain sales data and records on each territory in order to understand market trends and provide direction to employees; communicate competitive data to staff.
  • Monitor the sales process and intervene as necessary to address issues and accelerate the sales process.
  • Interpret and explain business/marketing policies and programs to Regional staff in order to maintain consistency and responsiveness to customer needs, ensuring that market and Territory strategies are fully executed.
  • Provide input to the Area Sales Director on sales strategies, new product indications, and product acceptance.
  • Ensure department staff is properly trained, per designated training plan, before assuming job responsibilities. Also, ensure all regional members participate in on-going training.
  • Participate in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of department staff.
  • Develop and manage schedules and performance requirements of staff.
  • Support the short-term planning for the department, including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
  • Monitor and approve territory expense and mileage usage reports. Ensure region expenses stay within specified quarterly and annual budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Proficient in dealing with patients, referral sources, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to manage all aspects of the sales process/activities.
  • Skilled at effectively communicating department or area issues and results within and across functional areas and conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or timelines. Able to gain cooperation of others.
  • Skilled at effectively leading a cooperative team effort and organizing resources to achieve team goals. Able to make and prioritize process and resource decisions based on overall team needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Customer Relationship Management software tools.
  • Able to travel in the region and work from a home office; must maintain valid driver's license and required auto insurance as well as good driving record, per company policy.
  • BS/BA or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
  • 8 years sales and/or CDE experience with a minimum of 5 years of related industry sales experience in one or more of the following areas: diabetes, endocrinology, insulin infusion pumps, and managed care.
  • 3 years' experience in a sales management preferred.

The base pay for this position is $152,200 - $186,000 annually, with a target earning potential of $227,200 - $261,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and may also fluctuate depending on candidate's location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes equity and a robust benefits package.

A conditional offer of employment from Tandem is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment screening process comprised of a drug test (excluding marijuana) and background check, which includes a review of criminal history information.
