Facility Maintenance Specialist

The Facility Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in the upkeep and repair of facilities and their associated systems. This position entails guiding, training, and mentoring fellow technicians to foster a secure environment for all stakeholders. Additionally, the specialist may assume security responsibilities in the absence of designated personnel and undertake various related tasks as needed. This is a non-exempt role.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

  • Directs the maintenance and repair of control systems and related equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversees the fire alarm system, responding to alerts, replacing faulty components, and resetting the system as necessary.
  • Installs, repairs, and tests electrical circuits, appliances, and lighting systems as required.
  • Manages inventory and parts ordering with support from other technicians.

General Facility Upkeep and Security

  • Acts as the lead technician and takes on the director's responsibilities in their absence, under the guidance of the Director of Operations.
  • Educates department technicians in skill enhancement.
  • Ensures compliance with building codes and regulations while maintaining all physical structures.
  • Operates and oversees the potable water supply and sewage treatment facilities as needed.
  • Conducts maintenance and repairs on electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Performs routine inspections and testing of emergency generators and related equipment.
  • Completes minor maintenance tasks upon request, such as changing light bulbs and performing light carpentry.
  • Executes assigned security duties to maintain appropriate facility oversight.

Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Keeps detailed records of inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on systems and equipment.
  • Maintains training documentation for skill development of department technicians.
  • Generates monthly maintenance activity reports for the Director of Operations.
  • Provides management with insights and recommendations regarding technician hiring, evaluations, and performance.
  • Participates in the departmental on-call rotation.

Qualifications

Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A background in general maintenance is essential, with a preference for experience in hospital maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exhibits professionalism in all assigned duties.
  • Available to work various shifts as required.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiar with fire alarm systems, plant tools and equipment, and safety protocols.
