Facility Maintenance Technician

The Facility Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and repair of facilities and their associated equipment. This position requires leadership skills to train and mentor fellow technicians, fostering a safe environment for all stakeholders, including employees and visitors. The technician may also be tasked with security responsibilities when necessary and will engage in various related duties as assigned. This is a non-exempt role.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

  • Directs the maintenance and repair of controls and related equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversees the fire alarm system, responding to alerts, replacing faulty components, and resetting the system as needed.
  • Installs, repairs, and tests electrical circuits, appliances, and lighting systems as required.
  • Manages inventory and parts ordering with support from other technicians.

General Facility Upkeep and Security

  • Acts as the lead technician and assumes the director's responsibilities in their absence, under the guidance of the Director of Operations.
  • Provides training to department technicians to enhance their skills.
  • Ensures compliance with building codes and regulations while maintaining all physical structures.
  • Operates and maintains the potable water supply and sewage treatment facilities as necessary.
  • Conducts maintenance and repairs on electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Performs routine inspections and testing of emergency generators and equipment.
  • Handles minor maintenance tasks as requested, including light carpentry and bulb replacements.
  • Carries out assigned security duties to maintain facility safety.

Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Keeps detailed records of inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on systems and equipment.
  • Maintains training records for the skill development of department technicians.
  • Generates monthly maintenance activity reports for the Director of Operations.
  • Provides management with feedback and recommendations regarding technician performance and evaluations.
  • Participates in the departmental on-call rotation.

Qualifications

Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. A background in general maintenance is essential, with a preference for experience in healthcare facility maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exhibits professionalism in all tasks undertaken.
  • Availability to work various shifts as required.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm systems, plant tools and equipment, and safety protocols.
