Job Overview

Facility Maintenance Specialist

The Facility Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in the preventive and general upkeep and repair of the facility and its associated equipment. This position involves leading, training, and mentoring fellow technicians while ensuring compliance with all relevant standards to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors of all ages. Additional responsibilities may include security duties in the absence of a designated officer and other related tasks as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Maintenance and Repair


• Directs the maintenance and repair of HVAC controls and related equipment to enhance the efficiency of environmental systems.

• Oversees the fire alarm system, including responding to alarms, replacing defective components, and resetting the system.

• Manages the installation, repair, and testing of electrical circuits, equipment, appliances, and lighting systems as necessary.

• Responsible for parts procurement and inventory management with support from other technicians.

General Facility Upkeep and Security


• Acts as the lead technician and assumes the role of director in their absence, under the guidance of the Director of Operations.

• Facilitates skill development training for department technicians.

• Ensures compliance with building codes while maintaining all physical structures of the facility.

• Operates and maintains the potable water supply in accordance with regulatory requirements.

• Manages the Sewage Treatment Plant as mandated by regulatory authorities.

• Executes urgent corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

• Conducts preventative maintenance on equipment and systems as required.

• Performs routine inspections and testing of the emergency generator and associated equipment.

• Undertakes light maintenance tasks as requested, including replacing light bulbs and minor carpentry work.

• Executes security responsibilities as assigned, ensuring appropriate oversight of individuals within the facility.

Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities


• Maintains comprehensive records of all inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

• Keeps training records related to the skill development of department technicians.

• Prepares monthly summary reports of maintenance activities and submits written reports to the Director of Operations.

• Provides feedback and recommendations to the Director of Plant Operations regarding hiring, evaluations, and performance of department technicians.

• Participates in the departmental on-call rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A background in general maintenance is essential, with hospital maintenance experience preferred but not mandatory.

• Conducts all assigned tasks with professionalism, reflecting the highest standards of integrity in Plant Operations.

• Available to work various shifts as assigned.

• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

• Possesses a working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.

• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of plant tools and equipment maintenance.

• Adheres to safety protocols and precautions.
