Job Summary

This position is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct medical care appropriate to their specialty area in various departments at the facility.
  • Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests.
  • Analyze and interpret patient's histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Make decisions concerning medical care needs of patients, which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consults, and referrals.
  • Diagnose or treat acute healthcare problems such as illnesses, infections, and injuries.
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage, and frequencies.
  • Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances.
  • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957, and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service healthcare facilities.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Education and Licensure
  • Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
  • For Advanced Practice Nurse positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
Experience
  • The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
