All employees at correctional facilities are engaged in correctional work, regardless of their specific roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee civilian staff and assist in the management, development, organization, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive food service program for the inmate population.
- Act as the Assistant Food Service Administrator, taking full responsibility for the food service operations within the assigned facility, under the direction of the overall complex Food Service Administrator.
- Assist in planning, controlling, and evaluating departmental operations, including budget management for anticipated and unexpected expenses related to the Food Service Department.
- Establish and uphold standards for sanitation, safety, and security while developing menus and assessing inmate satisfaction regarding food quality and quantity.
- Coordinate all aspects of food preparation to ensure meals are adequately prepared and served, including remote areas such as Health Services and Special Housing Units.
- Maintain security within the institution, with correctional responsibilities taking precedence over other duties.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary for training and work-related matters.
Supervisory Status: Yes
Promotion Potential: Level 12

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Education:
- GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
- GS-12: No substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level.
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, which includes:
- Supervising food preparation and ensuring compliance with best practices in cooking and food safety.
- Overseeing dining operations and ensuring timely food preparation.
- Establishing and maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety during food preparation.
