The Poway Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled Food Service Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our food production kitchens and catering services.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the food production kitchens and catering services, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Order daily and weekly foods and supplies from vendors and central warehouse, maintaining inventory control and cost management.
- Supervise and assure the quality and quantity of foods prepared, utilizing standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
- Coordinate site-based catering services, assist in billing activities for charged and catered events, and assure collection of funds within established timelines.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, including student workers in the production kitchen.
- Confer with site administration, vendors, teachers, and pupils to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Develop and implement standards of personnel conduct and discipline in accordance with current discipline policy.
- Manage the production kitchen within established financial guidelines, ensuring efficient use of resources and budget management.
- College-level coursework in food service management, dietetics, or business.
- Four years of quantity food service preparation experience, two of which must be in a supervisory capacity in the day-to-day operation of an independent food production kitchen.
- A valid and appropriate California driver's license and availability of a private vehicle.
- Food Service Manager Training certificate (Serv Safe Certificate or its equivalent).
- Business management principles and procedures of institutional or school food service organization.
- Applicable sanitation, health, and safety regulations.
- Quantity and quality food production.
- Government guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.
- Receiving, storage, and inventory techniques and procedures.
- Principles and practices of supervision and training.
- Effective cost control techniques.
- Principles and methods of menu planning for secondary school students.
- Principles of nutrition, health, first aid, and safety.
- Basic computer skills and literacy.
- Food service and office environment.
- Subject to heat from ovens, cold from walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment and a computer terminal.
- Seeing to assure proper quantities of food.
- Bending at the waist.
- Lifting moderately heavy objects.
