Job Description

Mechanical Project Engineer III - Hay level 30

We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer III to join our North American Warehouse Solutions Team.

At Vanderlande Industries B.V., our Warehouse Solutions Engineering Department plays a crucial role in the design, specification, and implementation of Material Handling Systems and Warehouse Automation solutions for clients across North America. In this position, you will ensure that designs align with customer specifications, are coordinated with various trades to reduce installation conflicts, can be installed efficiently, and maintain effective communication with the on-site team.

Success in this role requires a balance of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with the engineering team. You will work closely with stakeholders from different disciplines and departments to prioritize tasks, enhance processes, and meet a diverse set of objectives. Strong technical abilities, creativity, excellent communication skills, motivation, and enthusiasm are essential for a successful candidate. You should demonstrate the ability to discern when to independently resolve issues and when to seek guidance from experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

Your duties will encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Interpreting customer drawings and specifications to create a fully operational mechanical system.
  • Enhancing functionality from initial sale to a practical mechanical design within budget constraints, in collaboration with other disciplines (Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.).
  • 3D modeling of systems and managing clash detection.
  • Producing associated 2D customer approval and installation layout drawings.
  • Conducting spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways, and forklift vehicular aisles.
  • Performing calculations at both system and component levels (Throughput, motor power, belt pull, reactive forces to building structure, etc.).
  • Engineering project-specific solutions for non-standard design applications.
  • Designing non-standard mechanical interfaces.
  • Applying safety regulations and ergonomic principles.
  • Specifying the mechanical equipment needed, including both Vanderlande manufactured and third-party purchased items.
  • Creating a motor manifest in relation to electrical and controls engineering requirements.
  • Documenting all engineering decisions through design plans, comprehensive installation files, and engineering instructions directed to site supervisors and installation subcontractors.
  • Traveling to sites as necessary to conduct surveys.
  • Supporting installation and commissioning both on-site and remotely.
  • Managing project documentation using a rights-based database system.
Requirements:
  • This is an entry-level position:
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
    • Or an Associate's ME/ET degree with 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 50%, with occasional international opportunities.
  • Ability to conceptualize overall systems and translate this into detailed system designs.
  • Capability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment where teamwork and collaboration are essential.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly understand and set expectations for deliverables.
  • Aptitude for managing time-sensitive situations and establishing appropriate priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Desire to learn and grow.
  • Proactive mindset.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Skill in motivating team members and fostering collaboration.
  • Capacity to quickly assess situations and take appropriate actions.
  • Strong team-oriented mentality and a commitment to project completion (Ownership Culture).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills and research capabilities.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D.
  • Familiarity with the AutoDesk Suite of tools (Revit, Navisworks, Vault, etc.).
Please note that this job description is not intended to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this position. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
