Mechanical Project Engineer III - Warehouse Solutions

Vanderlande Industries is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Engineer III to join our Warehouse Solutions Engineering Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, specifying, and commissioning Material Handling Systems and Warehouse Automation systems for our customers throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate customer drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical system, ensuring seamless integration with other disciplines.
  • Optimize system functionality, balancing budget constraints with performance requirements, in collaboration with Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, and other teams.
  • Develop 3D models and perform clash detection management to ensure efficient system design.
  • Produce associated 2D customer approval and installation layout drawings, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Perform spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways, and forklift vehicular aisles to ensure safe and efficient system operation.
  • Conduct system and component level calculations, including throughput, motor power, belt pull, and reactive forces to building structure.
  • Design and engineer project specials for non-standard design applications, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and ergonomics.
  • Specify mechanical equipment, including Vanderlande manufactured and third-party purchased items, to meet customer requirements.
  • Create motor manifests, considering electrical and controls engineering requirements.
  • Document all engineering decisions through design plans, installation files, and engineering instructions, ensuring clear communication with site supervisors and installation subcontractors.
  • Travel to site as needed to conduct site surveys, supporting installation and commissioning efforts.
  • Utilize a rights-based database system for project document control.

Requirements:

  • This is an entry-level position, requiring a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with 0-2 years of relative work experience, or an Associate's degree with 3-5 years of relative work experience.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically up to 50% with occasional international opportunities.
  • Ability to think conceptually and translate this into a detailed system design.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively understand and set expectations for deliverables.
  • Able to handle time-sensitive situations and prioritize tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Proactive and able to work autonomously or in a team environment.
  • Strong team mentality and willingness to accept responsibility for project completion.
  • Ability to properly prioritize work and activities.
  • Possess a strong ability to solve problems and research solutions.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D and Autodesk Suite of tools (Revit, Navisworks, Vault, etc.).
