Job Description

The Engineering Department at Vanderlande Industries B.V. is dedicated to the design, specification, and commissioning of material handling systems tailored for our clientele. In this role, you will be tasked with the design execution of control panels and field wiring for our material handling system solutions. The Electrical Project Engineer collaborates closely with the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Lead, Project Manager, subcontractors, and Mechanical Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of electrical engineering for projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Support Senior Electrical Project Engineers in executing larger and more intricate projects.
  • Guide junior electrical project engineers and hardware engineers in delivering project outputs.
  • Ensure the quality of electrical deliverables through redline reviews, checklists, and necessary meetings to achieve first-time-right results.
  • Calculate and detail the entire electromechanical installation (panels, field wiring, components) in close cooperation with the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Leader, and PLC engineers.
  • Select standardized solutions from successful past designs and utilize standard company modules for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Propose innovative solutions based on design requirements to meet project objectives.
  • Develop detailed designs for electromechanical installations and coordinate subcontractor efforts to ensure quality realization and installation.
  • Create project documentation and technical specifications for Controls Hardware suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring uniformity.
  • Assist in defining the scope of work and review deliverables when collaborating with third-party subcontractors for hardware design development.
  • Understand and apply procedures, standards, and regulations according to National and Local codes in the US, with the ability to learn requirements for Canada and Mexico as necessary.
  • Develop field wiring test plans for controls hardware installations.
  • Review existing hardware designs from other company divisions for compliance with local code requirements.
  • Report on the progress (hours, costs) of supervised electrical engineering efforts to the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Leader, and Engineering Manager.
  • Support site teams, electrical supervisors, and PLC Engineers to mitigate potential issues.
  • Engage with clients and subcontractors to address inquiries and challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate effectively with various groups within Vanderlande and the project team, including mechanical engineering, project management, supply chain, sales, and installation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert during quotation bids with the systems and sales department for new projects or project modifications.
  • Initiate improvement actions to enhance the experience of fellow electrical project engineers and hardware engineers.
  • Promote and enhance the hardware standardization platform.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in implementing material handling systems or industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with the US National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/70E/79).
  • Experience in design using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience in designing UL-rated cabinets and enclosures for PLC-controlled systems, including power distribution, motor protection, control, and industrial communication and networking (e.g., Ethernet IP, TCP/IP, CIP safety).
  • Experience in designing cabinets for multiple hardware platforms in industrial control applications, including A-B/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, and SEW.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, including BOM reporting features.
