Job Description

The Engineering Department at Vanderlande Industries B.V. is tasked with the design, specification, and commissioning of material handling systems tailored for our clientele. In this role, you will take charge of the design for control panels and field wiring associated with the material handling system solutions. The Electrical Project Engineer collaborates closely with the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Lead, Project Manager, subcontractors, and Mechanical Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage electrical engineering projects of moderate complexity and uniqueness.
  • Support Senior Electrical Project Engineers in executing larger and more intricate projects.
  • Guide junior electrical project engineers and hardware engineers in delivering project outcomes.
  • Oversee the internal quality of electrical deliverables through redlines, checklists, and review meetings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Calculate and articulate the entire electromechanical installation (panels, field wiring, components) in close collaboration with the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Leader, and PLC engineers.
  • Select standardized solutions from previously successful designs and leverage standard company modules for effective and economical results.
  • Propose innovative solutions tailored to meet project specifications.
  • Develop detailed designs for electromechanical installations and coordinate realization and installation efforts with subcontractors, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Create project documentation and technical specifications for Controls Hardware suppliers, subcontractors, and resale equipment, ensuring uniformity.
  • Assist in defining the scope of work and reviewing deliverables when collaborating with third-party subcontractors for external hardware design development.
  • Understand and apply procedures, standards, and regulations at both National and Local code levels for the US, with the ability to learn code requirements for Canada and Mexico as necessary.
  • Develop field wiring test plans for controls hardware installations.
  • Review existing hardware designs from other company sectors for compliance with local code requirements.
  • Report on the progress (hours, costs) of supervised electrical engineering efforts to the Senior Electrical Project Engineer, Controls Project Leader, and Engineering Manager.
  • Support the site team, electrical supervisor, and PLC Engineer to mitigate potential issues.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and subcontractors to address inquiries and challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with various groups within Vanderlande and the project team, including mechanical engineering, project management, supply chain, sales/proposal departments, and installation teams.
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert on quotation bids alongside the systems and sales department for new projects or project modifications.
  • Initiate improvement actions to enhance the experience of fellow electrical project engineers and hardware engineers.
  • Promote and enhance the hardware standardization platform.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in implementing material handling systems or industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with the US National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/70E/79).
  • Design experience using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience in designing UL-rated cabinets and enclosures for PLC-controlled systems, including power distribution, motor protection, control, and industrial communication and networking (e.g., Ethernet IP, TCP/IP, CIP safety).
  • Experience designing cabinets that involve multiple hardware platforms for industrial control applications, including A-B/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, and SEW.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, including BOM reporting features.
