We are seeking a Vice President of Taxation and Compliance to join our dynamic team. This full-time position is integral to our Finance leadership group, focusing on the tax function within our rapidly expanding, multi-jurisdictional, private equity-backed software organization.

About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will spearhead tax strategy, compliance, risk management, transaction support, and special projects, while executing Aptean's global tax initiatives. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President & Global Controller, you will oversee the worldwide tax operations in a fast-paced setting, managing both internal staff and external advisors with a hands-on approach.

The primary responsibility of the Vice President of Taxation is to direct tax strategy and ensure compliance across our global operations. You will leverage your expertise to identify potential tax challenges, communicate risks, and make high-level policy decisions across various jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance:
  • Oversee global tax compliance efforts, including the preparation and submission of international, federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax obligations and filings.
  • Stay informed on tax law changes to advise on compliance impacts, particularly in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, VAT, and other related taxes, while exploring automation opportunities.
Tax Planning and Strategy:
  • Formulate and execute tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position while ensuring legal compliance.
  • Identify potential tax savings through thorough analysis of business operations.
  • Oversee the global transfer pricing framework and maintain relevant inter-company documentation.
  • Collaborate with business units to establish efficient tax policies for cash repatriation and effective tax rate reduction.
  • Support M&A due diligence and structuring alongside business development teams and external advisors.
  • Identify and leverage tax incentives available to the company and its workforce.
  • Assist with corporate initiatives, including due diligence and integration of acquired entities.
  • Act as a tax expert, collaborating with various departments on strategic initiatives and international expansion.
Risk Management:
  • Evaluate and mitigate tax risks associated with business activities.
  • Implement processes to ensure the integrity of tax reporting and compliance.
  • Develop tax-planning models to forecast tax attribute utilization and changes in tax positions.
  • Support the integration of acquired entities and manage post-acquisition tax structures.
Tax Reporting and Financial Analysis:
  • Oversee financial reporting for income taxes, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Manage tax reporting obligations to authorities and stakeholders.
  • Provide tax-related financial insights to support executive decision-making.
Tax Audits and Controversies:
  • Lead the management of global tax audits and inquiries, coordinating with external advisors as necessary.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Guide and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance operational effectiveness.
About You
  • 10-12 years of experience in tax management.
  • Certified Public Accountant (JD or Masters in Tax preferred).
  • Experience in the technology sector, particularly within software companies.
  • Background with multinational organizations.
  • Familiarity with Pillar 2 reporting.
  • Extensive experience in accounting for income taxes.
  • Experience with private equity-backed companies is a plus.
  • Experience in integrating acquired entities is advantageous.
