GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is tasked with executing a range of medical laboratory assessments and analyses to gather data essential for the diagnosis and management of health conditions.

Operates autonomously in conducting standard laboratory evaluations and microscopic inspections.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a degree from an accredited institution and completion of a recognized Medical Technology Program.
Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required.

A minimum of two years of prior experience in phlebotomy and skin puncture on patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics, along with experience in analytical specimen processing within a clinical laboratory setting.

Experience in a chemical laboratory or familiarity with analytical chemistry is advantageous, though not essential.

Willingness to adapt to varying work arrangements, including performing the same task for extended periods or engaging in different tasks throughout the day.

Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at the laboratory bench.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
BLS certification is mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collects blood samples, preserves test specimens for necessary procedures, and communicates results to the referring physician.
Prepares specimens for examination.
Oversees laboratory procedures and tests, utilizing laboratory instruments to identify harmful microorganisms in samples.
Evaluates the chemical composition of samples, ensuring compatibility of blood for transfusions. Screens and processes incoming patients.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.

The employee must be capable of lifting and/or carrying over 20 pounds regularly and pushing/pulling over 25 pounds consistently.

The employee must be able to stand and/or walk for a minimum of five hours each day.
