Position Overview

The Retail Inventory Accountant Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and managing the inventory accounting functions, ensuring precise financial reporting and leading month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), expertise in QuickBooks, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting or a related discipline. This role requires independent work and direct management of all relevant accounting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory Oversight:
    • Supervise and reconcile inventory accounts to guarantee accuracy and completeness.
    • Conduct regular inventory assessments and cycle counts.
    • Evaluate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
    • Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to address inventory issues.
  • Month-End Closing Oversight:
    • Direct and manage month-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate closure of inventory accounts.
    • Execute and supervise journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
    • Prepare and review financial statements and reports related to inventory.
    • Ensure all month-end financial documentation is completed accurately and punctually.
    • Coordinate with other departments to collect necessary information for month-end closing.
  • Financial Documentation:
    • Maintain and revise inventory accounting policies and procedures.
    • Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal controls.
    • Assist in budget preparation and forecasting.
    • Work with external auditors during annual evaluations.
  • System Administration:
    • Utilize QuickBooks for inventory accounting and financial reporting.
    • Implement and enhance inventory management systems.
    • Provide training and support to team members on inventory accounting practices.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 4 years of experience in inventory accounting, preferably within a retail context.
    • Demonstrated experience managing month-end closing processes.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong attention to detail and precision.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
