We are excited to announce an opportunity with a prominent firm in the real estate sector, focusing on property management and development. We are in search of a highly qualified and experienced Financial Operations Manager to become a vital part of the finance team. The ideal candidate will take charge of all accounting functions related to the property portfolio, ensuring precise financial reporting and adherence to regulatory standards. The Financial Operations Manager will collaborate closely with the property management and development teams to offer financial insights and support strategic decision-making.

Experience in Multi-Family/Residential Property Accounting is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the property portfolio, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Develop and oversee budgets for each property, including operating expenses, capital expenditures, and revenue forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for leases, including rent payments, lease incentives, and modifications in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Work in partnership with property managers to assess financial performance, resolve financial issues, and provide guidance on cost control and revenue enhancement strategies.
  • Supervise the processing of accounts payable and receivable related to property operations, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices and collection of rents.
  • Maintain the general ledger for all properties, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures. Assist in preparing audit schedules and responding to audit inquiries.
  • Lead and mentor a team of property accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations while fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Participate in the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in property accounting or real estate accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar), Microsoft Excel, and other financial analysis tools. Familiarity with GAAP and lease accounting standards (ASC 842).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
