Position Overview

The Retail Inventory Accountant Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and managing the inventory accounting operations, ensuring precise financial reporting and leading month-end closing procedures. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), expertise in QuickBooks, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting or a related discipline. This role will require independent work and direct handling of all pertinent accounting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory Oversight:
    • Oversee and reconcile inventory accounts to guarantee accuracy and completeness.
    • Conduct routine inventory audits and cycle counts.
    • Examine inventory discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
    • Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to address inventory issues.
  • Month-End Closing Oversight:
    • Lead and manage month-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate closure of inventory accounts.
    • Execute and supervise journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
    • Prepare and review financial statements and reports related to inventory.
    • Ensure all month-end financial documentation is completed accurately and punctually.
    • Coordinate with other departments to collect necessary information for month-end closing.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Maintain and update inventory accounting policies and procedures.
    • Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal controls.
    • Assist in the formulation of budgets and forecasts.
    • Work with external auditors during annual audits.
  • System Management:
    • Utilize QuickBooks for inventory accounting and financial reporting.
    • Implement and enhance inventory management systems.
    • Provide training and support to team members regarding inventory accounting processes.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 4 years of experience in inventory accounting, preferably within a retail context.
    • Demonstrated experience managing month-end closing processes.
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong attention to detail and precision.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple responsibilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
