Explore Meaningful Contributions:

Secures and maintains business for PPD, a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, through professional, consultative, and proactive sales initiatives directed at decision-makers and influencers among existing and prospective clinical sponsors. Positions PPD, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, as a primary or preferred provider for all outsourced clinical development tasks. Evaluates opportunities and formulates proposals, including defining solutions and suggesting pricing structures to align with strategic organizational objectives. Acts as the main point of contact until agreements are finalized, subsequently coordinating with relevant clinical development sectors to ensure effective implementation. Serves as a liaison between sponsors and the organization on all business development initiatives and requirements. Collects data on market trends and competitive offerings.

A Day in the Role:
  • Facilitates RFP strategy discussions, crafts client proposals, prepares presentations, and negotiates and finalizes contracts. Achieves new business authorizations at or above set authorization targets.
  • Conducts outreach through cold calls and client meetings; maintains sales database; tracks cold call and client visit activities.
  • Ensures client satisfaction through regular communication; identifies and develops strategies to address client concerns; responds to all client inquiries.
  • Mentors and guides junior staff members.
  • Addresses diverse challenges where data analysis necessitates evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Typically operates with minimal guidance on daily tasks, receiving general instructions for new assignments. Exhibits sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for problem-solving.
  • Represents the department as a primary contact on projects. Engages with internal and external personnel on significant matters, often requiring coordination across functional areas. Networks with senior personnel in relevant fields.
Keys to Success:Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.
Experience
  • Prior experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the role (equivalent to 5+ years) or a combination of education, training, and experience. High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Background in science, sales, and/or marketing with a focus on the pharmaceutical/biotech sector.
  • Proven history of cultivating mid- and high-level business relationships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with Operations, Finance, Bids & Contracts, and Marketing, while following up to enhance relationships and business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and nurturing sales leads, delivering professional presentations, managing the sales process through closure, and overseeing all aspects of contract negotiations.
  • Familiarity with sales automation systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
