Position Overview

The Motor Vehicle Client Service Specialist I role is a dynamic position that involves engaging with a high volume of customers daily. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions. A keen eye for detail is essential, as responsibilities include reviewing, verifying, coding, and processing applications for various motor vehicle registrations, driver licenses, and identification cards. Proficiency in handling significant financial transactions and delivering exceptional customer service is mandatory for this role. This is a full-time position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, requiring some overtime, and it is not a remote role.

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity, Motor Vehicle Client Service Specialist I (#49966), is available to all State employees and external candidates.

Job Responsibilities

Incumbents are expected to work efficiently and accurately under pressure while interacting with the public and responding to telephone inquiries. Daily exposure to the public may present health risks, including exposure to contagious illnesses. Candidates must be adept at multitasking and prioritizing varying workloads. The role requires managing interactions with confused, frustrated, or upset customers while handling large amounts of cash. Normal office conditions apply, with occasional outdoor tasks for vehicle identification verification. Flexibility to travel to different offices on short notice to assist with staffing shortages is required, along with the possibility of overtime work.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a customer service role, such as retail, hospitality, or government, which involved significant public interaction and regular use of computer systems.

Alternatively, candidates may qualify with four (4) months of experience within the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration, meeting the proficiency standards set by the Department.

Performance Expectations

The successful candidate will efficiently serve customers while maintaining a minimum production level of 3+ transactions per hour with an error rate of 1% or less. Proficiency in licensing or registration processes is required, along with demonstrated expertise in at least two job duties referenced in the performance matrix for a minimum of four months.

Background Check Requirement

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), applicants must consent to fingerprinting and a background investigation, which may include checks of criminal, financial, and traffic records. Candidates will be informed of these requirements during the final stages of the interview process and may withdraw their applications prior to the completion of these checks.

Compensation and Benefits

As a State employee, you will enjoy a comprehensive career opportunity that extends beyond salary. The total compensation package includes a robust set of employee benefits valued at approximately 30% of your overall compensation, which features:

  • 80% State-funded medical premiums and a no-cost dental plan for employees and their families
