Position Overview

The Client Service Specialist for Motor Vehicle Operations is a dynamic role that involves engaging with a high volume of customers daily. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and make sound judgments. Precision is essential as the role encompasses the examination, validation, coding, and processing of applications related to various motor vehicle registrations, driver licenses, and identification cards. Proficiency in handling substantial monetary transactions and exceptional customer service abilities are prerequisites for this position. This is a full-time role with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential for overtime. This position requires on-site work.

Eligibility Criteria

This role, Client Service Specialist for Motor Vehicle Operations, is available to all State employees and external candidates.

Work Environment

Incumbents are expected to perform efficiently and accurately under pressure while interacting with the public and responding to telephone inquiries. Given the high level of public interaction, there is a daily risk of exposure to contagious illnesses. Incumbents must be adept at multitasking and prioritizing fluctuating workloads. Employees will frequently engage with confused, frustrated, or upset customers and manage significant cash transactions. The work environment is primarily office-based, with occasional outdoor tasks related to vehicle identification verification. Incumbents may be required to travel to different offices on short notice to assist with staffing shortages and may need to work varied hours. Personal transportation may be necessary, and overtime may be required.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a customer service role, such as retail, hospitality, or government, which involved substantial public interaction and regular use of computer systems.

Alternatively, candidates may qualify with four (4) months of experience within the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration, meeting the proficiency standards set by the Department.

Special Note:

Incumbents are expected to serve customers efficiently while maintaining a minimum production level of 3+ transactions per hour with an error rate of 1% or less. Proficiency in licensing or registration tasks is required, along with demonstrated competence in at least two job duties referenced in the proficiency matrix for a minimum of four months.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with relevant regulations, candidates must agree to fingerprinting and a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background check may include criminal, financial, and driving record assessments. Candidates will be notified of these requirements during the final stages of the interview process.
