St. Joseph Center has been dedicated to serving low-income and homeless individuals and families since 1976. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we provide essential support without discrimination through a variety of programs across four main service areas: Outreach and Engagement, Housing Services, Mental Health, and Education and Vocational Training. Each year, we assist over 10,000 individuals in Los Angeles County.

Role Overview

The Housing Navigator plays a vital role within our team, collaborating with social service professionals to ensure the effective delivery of care in alignment with established regulations and the mission of St. Joseph Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver housing navigation and supportive services to individuals facing homelessness in the designated area.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with community members, law enforcement, the Coordinated Entry System (CES), and other service providers.
  • Assist clients in accessing suitable bridge and interim housing programs, guiding them through the necessary enrollment paperwork for permanent housing options.

Essential Duties

  • Provide tailored case management to address the unique needs of each client.
  • Build trust and rapport with clients experiencing homelessness, utilizing assessment tools to evaluate their situations.
  • Connect clients with essential physical and mental health services, aiding them in securing mainstream benefits and identification.
  • Maintain organized client files and accurately input data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Offer transportation assistance when necessary.
  • Engage in case conferencing and community meetings to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Self-motivated with strong communication skills to engage a diverse population.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth understanding of homeless services and resources, with experience in Harm Reduction and Housing First approaches.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of experience working with vulnerable populations.

Education:

  • A degree in social work, human services, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Additional Information

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and a valid California Class C Driver License are required. The role involves travel to various work sites and meetings as needed.

Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Salary: $22 - $22.50
