Overview:
Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Community Support Advocate will focus on delivering supported living services for adults with developmental disabilities who reside independently within their community in their preferred living arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:
The Community Support Advocate will engage in community outreach and provide assistance to those served. They will collaborate with a team, including the consumer's support network, to help fulfill the consumers' Individual Program Plan (IPP).

The Advocate will offer services such as supervision, assistance, and support in areas identified by the IPP. They will embody the core values of People Services, Inc., which include Respect, Dignity, and Empowerment in all interactions with consumers, team members, agency partners, and the broader community.

Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Preferred experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in related fields.
- Fingerprint Clearance
- Negative results on drug testing
- Compliance with drug testing policy
- Valid California Driver's License
- Clean driving record
- CPR and First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain certification
- Ability to obtain Pro Act Certification
- Reliable, registered, and insured vehicle
- Proficient in reading and interpreting documents, writing specific correspondence, and understanding written and verbal instructions
- Flexible schedule to accommodate the consumer's needs.

Essential Duties:
Under the supervision of the Director, the Community Support Advocate will:
- Establish and maintain effective communication with the Program Director.
- Prepare and monitor the IPP for assigned clients, including training, coverage, and data collection.
- Assist consumers in identifying personal goals; supported living services may include money management, social security assistance, medical appointments, health insurance, peer support, self-advocacy, and socialization.
- Help consumers with housing challenges, including obtaining affordable and accessible housing, securing funding for modifications, and advocating with landlords and housing agencies.
- Support consumers in achieving personal, behavioral, or independent goals as outlined in their IPP.
- Educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities.
- Guide consumers in understanding their choices and the potential consequences related to their health and well-being.
- Address challenging behaviors proactively and respectfully.
- Prioritize the needs of the person served, demonstrating flexibility, creativity, and commitment in direct support roles.
- Respect the values of the individuals served and facilitate their expression of choices related to those values.
- Advocate for consumers when their preferences, needs, or talents are overlooked by agencies or resources.
- Build respectful relationships with consumers based on mutual trust while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ensure confidentiality for all consumer information and facility operations.
- Complete all operational paperwork, including timecards and contact logs, according to submission guidelines.
- Assist consumers in ensuring their safety in home and community settings.
- Timely completion of caseload reports.
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and other required meetings.
- Develop and maintain written documentation as requested.
- Make decisions aligned with People Services, Inc.'s mission, goals, policies, and ethical standards.
- Show respect for consumers' chosen lifestyles.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director.
