POSITION SUMMARY:

This role encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities within the civil engineering sector, focusing on materials testing, construction oversight, drafting, and various engineering tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive materials testing and construction inspections.
  • Develop reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil enhancements across various project types, including residential, commercial, and industrial.
  • Oversee the design, permitting, inspection, and management of water systems, septic systems, and stormwater management facilities.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and inspect construction materials suitable for project implementation.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients to secure necessary planning and building approvals.
  • Engage with architects and structural engineers, providing assistance in addressing inquiries from contractors and public agencies.
  • Supervise and assess the work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Manage both private and public works contracts, overseeing the bidding process and related components.
  • Work alongside Project and Construction Managers to resolve field-related challenges.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports across various civil engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct traffic studies to assess existing and projected levels of service (LOS) for roadways and intersections.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Certification as Engineer-in-Training (EIT) after passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
  • Proficiency in engineering calculations and design preparation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Business-minded approach to decision-making.
  • Capability to lift and move items weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A strong work ethic and accountability are essential.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design software (e.g., AutoCAD) is preferred.
  • Competence in producing drawings, specifications, and technical documents that articulate design rationale.
  • Advanced technical writing and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of building codes, design manuals, and construction practices is advantageous.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Understanding of Washington State Energy Code compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and phone systems (e.g., Mitel).
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing design, bidding, and construction.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication, exercising professional engineering judgment to meet objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The role typically involves working in an office setting as well as outdoor environments, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. There may be exposure to machinery with moving parts.
