Job Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Civil Engineering Specialist (EIT) to join our team. This role encompasses civil and geotechnical engineering responsibilities to support the design, construction, and oversight of various public and private initiatives.

The position includes functional supervision of designated staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Civil Engineering Specialist will engage in a variety of tasks including materials testing, construction oversight, drafting, and civil engineering functions.

Responsibilities include preparing reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil enhancements on projects that may include residential, commercial, or industrial developments.

Design, permit, inspect, and oversee the development of water systems, septic systems, or stormwater management facilities.
Choose, monitor, and evaluate suitable construction materials for project use.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients to secure necessary planning and/or building approvals.
Work alongside relevant professionals such as architects and structural engineers. Assist in addressing inquiries from contractors, public agencies, and the general public regarding policies and procedures.
Monitor and assess work conducted by contractors.
Administer and manage both private and public works for bid contracts, including various bidding components.
Oversee project management, assisting Project and Construction Managers in resolving field issues.
Prepare technical reports across different civil engineering disciplines.

Conduct Traffic Studies to evaluate existing and anticipated levels of service (LOS) standards on roads and intersections for project planning.

Undertake additional related tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field
Certification as Engineer-in-Training (successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam)
Proficiency in engineering calculations and design preparation.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Strong time management, organizational abilities, and attention to detail
Business-minded in daily decision-making.
Capability to lift and transport up to 70 pounds.
Able to work collaboratively within a team.
Demonstrated strong work ethic and accountability.
Familiarity with computer-aided drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD) is preferred.

Ability to execute a variety of assignments, including the creation of drawings, specifications, and technical documents that articulate the design rationale.

Strong technical writing and analytical capabilities
Knowledge of building codes, design manuals, and construction practices is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with computer-aided drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD).
Understanding of Washington State Energy Code compliance.
Proficiency in Phone Systems (Mitel) & Microsoft Suite.
Outstanding analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Familiarity with state and federal regulations and standards for design, bidding, and construction.
Skills in analyzing, interpreting, and preparing reports.
Proficient in both oral and written communication.
Ability to exercise professional engineering judgment to achieve objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role typically involves sitting at a desk or table, as well as standing or walking.
Work is conducted in both office and outdoor settings, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts.
