Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Operations Specialist to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing technical tasks related to the maintenance and operation of our sewage treatment plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist engineering personnel in carrying out wastewater treatment operations, including performing field inspections of operations, facilities, and equipment, and resolving operating problems.
  • Supervise trades personnel in the completion of maintenance activities, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with District specifications and safety requirements.
  • Assist in planning and directing biosolids receiving, drying, and shipping operations at various sludge drying sites, monitoring activities and site conditions, and determining and recording truck and material weight information.
  • Retrieve, microfilm, duplicate, check, code, and file departmental records, copy and archive contract plans, and maintain a filing system for records retrieval.
  • Set up and maintain surveying equipment, assist in establishing and recording survey information such as lines and grades, bench marks, and cross sections.
  • Obtain, assemble, and prepare data and maintain records, make routine checks on data, and utilize departmental information systems to retrieve and enter information and prepare reports.
Other Responsibilities
  • Perform standard tests and checks.
  • Draft and prepare charts and exhibits.
  • Maintain supply and equipment inventories, prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

This position typically works in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system. May involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities and heavy equipment, and may require exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

Requirements
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and two years of sub-professional engineering experience.
  • College or technical training beyond high school in engineering or mathematics may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
