Senior Accountant Position Overview

The Senior Accountant at ARCHE plays a crucial role in applying advanced accounting principles to evaluate, analyze, reconcile, summarize, and report financial data.

This role is responsible for assessing and refining financial service processes to enhance efficiency and optimize technology investments. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Financial Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze reports and statements from accounting data, ensuring accuracy and identifying trends to inform upper management.
  • Problem Resolution: Identify discrepancies and collaborate with internal and external contacts to rectify issues, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
  • Account Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts within the organization’s financial system, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring audit-ready documentation.
  • Internal Controls: Design and recommend internal controls to ensure the reliability of financial systems and data integrity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for funding agencies and other organizations, providing necessary financial information and clarifying issues as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Assess and redesign business processes, working closely with stakeholders to implement effective solutions.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training materials and procedures to support changes in business processes.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Oversee daily accounts payable functions, providing guidance and training as necessary.
  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and file sales and use tax returns for the organization.
  • Financial Analysis: Assist with financial analysis and internal reporting, including preparation for audits.
  • Journal Entries: Initiate and process journal entries and finance entry uploads.
  • System Enhancements: Collaborate with IT on system modifications to improve functionality.
  • Leadership: May lead and mentor other accounting staff and student workers, providing guidance on assignments and special projects.
  • Backup Support: Act as a backup for other Business Office staff as assigned.
  • Capital Projects: Assist with capital projects and support institutional advancement initiatives.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience with GAAP accounting and audit, including tax filing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of management experience in a business office function, preferably in higher education or non-profit sectors.
  • Prior experience with technology systems implementation.
