Overview:

The Emergency Department Technician possesses a diverse skill set encompassing roles such as ED Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, assisting in the delivery of patient care in alignment with established training and competencies. The technician is well-versed in hospital protocols and consistently contributes to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for patient care.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed facility catering to the rapidly expanding population of San Antonio. Our specialized services include orthopedic and surgical care, intensive care, women's health, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular services, and emergency care, among others. The campus features an Outpatient Imaging Center and multiple medical plazas, enhancing our commitment to community health.

Key Responsibilities:


• Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• Observes and reports changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse, based on training.

• Escorts stable patients to various departments as necessary.

• Responsible for cleaning, procuring, and returning medical equipment and supplies.

• Aids in the ordering and inventory management of stock items.

• Maintains proficiency in specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.

• Prepares for Emergency Department procedures and assists the RN as directed.

• Operates patient monitoring equipment and records vital data under the supervision of the RN.

• Conducts phlebotomy and collects laboratory specimens as instructed.

• Demonstrates the ability to perform patient care responsibilities tailored to the specific needs of the patient population served.

• Adapts assessment and treatment methods to meet the diverse physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients.

• Performs clerical duties on nursing units, including serving as a receptionist and maintaining patient records.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly greets patients upon arrival, ensuring a professional and courteous atmosphere. Accurately documents necessary demographic and insurance information in the system.

• Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.

• Undertakes additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

B. Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care hospital or military medic environment, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • ACLS certification must be obtained within six months of hire for Associates at Children’s & Santa Rosa.
  • PALS certification must be obtained within six months of hire for Associates at Children’s & Santa Rosa.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
