This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, contributing to patient care in alignment with established competencies and skills. The technician is expected to adhere to all hospital protocols and maintain a safe, organized, and well-stocked environment for patient care.
CHRISTUS Children's Hospital, a pioneer in pediatric healthcare since 1959, is the first children's hospital in South-Central Texas. This facility, located in the heart of the city, caters to over 70,000 children each year from San Antonio and beyond. As the only academic children's hospital in the region, in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine, it offers specialized services tailored to the unique medical needs of children, including Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care, Children's Emergency Services, and advanced treatments for various conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Uphold the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
• Monitor patient conditions, identify changes, and communicate findings to the registered nurse.
• Safely escort stable patients to other departments as necessary.
• Manage the cleaning, procurement, and return of medical equipment and supplies.
• Assist in the ordering and inventory management of stock items.
• Maintain proficiency in performing specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.
• Prepare for Emergency Department procedures and support the RN as directed.
• Operate patient monitoring devices, record data, and perform EKGs and other assessments as delegated by the RN.
• Conduct phlebotomy and collect laboratory specimens under RN supervision.
• Adapt patient care approaches to meet the specific developmental and cultural needs of the patient population served.
• Perform clerical duties, including serving as a unit receptionist and maintaining accurate patient records.
• As a Patient Registrar, greet patients warmly and maintain a high standard of customer service while collecting necessary demographic and insurance information.
• Adhere to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
A. Education/Skills
- A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
B. Experience
- 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or military medic background, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Current BLS certification is mandatory.
- ACLS certification required within six months of hire for associates at Children's & Santa Rosa.
- PALS certification required within six months of hire for associates at Children's & Santa Rosa.
- EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
