Overview:

The Emergency Department Technician possesses a diverse skill set encompassing roles such as ED Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, aimed at assisting the nursing team in delivering patient care that aligns with established training and competencies. The technician is well-versed in hospital protocols and consistently contributes to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for patient care.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed facility dedicated to serving a rapidly expanding community. The hospital offers specialized services including orthopedic and surgical care, intensive care, women's health, newborn services, comprehensive cardiovascular treatment, and emergency care, among others. The campus also features an Outpatient Imaging Center and several medical plazas, enhancing its service offerings.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• In accordance with training, monitor patient conditions, identify changes, and communicate findings to the RN.

• Safely escort stable patients to various departments as needed.

• Ensure cleanliness and availability of equipment and supplies.

• Assist in ordering and managing inventory of stock items.

• Maintain proficiency in performing specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.

• Prepare for Emergency Department procedures and support the RN as required.

• Operate patient monitoring devices, record data, and conduct EKGs and other tests as directed by the RN.

• Collect laboratory specimens and perform phlebotomy under RN supervision.

• Demonstrate the ability to adapt patient care approaches to meet the specific needs of diverse patient populations.

• Carry out clerical duties under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, including managing patient records and transcribing orders.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly greet patients upon arrival, ensuring a professional and courteous atmosphere. Accurately document necessary demographic and insurance information in the system.

• Adhere to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

B. Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or a valid EMT license in lieu of experience is required.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • ACLS certification is required within six months of hire for Associates at Children’s & Santa Rosa.
  • PALS certification is required within six months of hire for Associates at Children’s & Santa Rosa.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
