Summary:

The Emergency Services Technician is equipped with the expertise and competencies spanning various roles such as ED Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position entails executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, under their supervision. The technician plays a crucial role in assisting the nursing team in delivering patient care aligned with their training and skill set. Adherence to hospital policies and procedures is essential, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for patient care.

CHRISTUS Children's Hospital, a pioneer in pediatric healthcare since 1959, caters to over 70,000 children annually, providing specialized services tailored to the unique medical needs of children. Our institution is recognized for its comprehensive care, including Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care, Children's Emergency Services, and advanced treatments for various conditions.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse, in line with training.

• Safely escort stable patients to other departments as necessary.

• Manage the cleaning, procurement, and return of medical equipment and supplies.

• Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of stock items.

• Maintain proficiency in performing specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.

• Prepare for Emergency Department procedures and support the RN as directed.

• Operate patient monitoring equipment and record vital signs as delegated by the RN.

• Conduct phlebotomy and collect laboratory specimens under RN supervision.

• Adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served.

• Perform clerical duties on nursing units, including transcribing orders and maintaining patient records.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly greet patients and ensure their comfort during the registration process, while accurately documenting necessary information.

• Adhere to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all activities.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

B. Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care hospital or military medic environment, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience required.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • ACLS certification required within six months of hire for Associates at Children's & Santa Rosa.
  • PALS certification required within six months of hire for Associates at Children's & Santa Rosa.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
