POSITION OVERVIEW

In this role, you will oversee a range of radiation safety functions, including analysis of plant issues, documentation related to licensing, and the execution of significant radiation safety projects. You will also engage with regulatory bodies and serve as a liaison for various industry organizations. Your expertise will extend to instrumentation, dosimetry calculations, corrective action management, and performance enhancement initiatives. This position requires independent work and the provision of technical guidance and leadership within your area of expertise. You may also assume the responsibilities of Radiological Support Supervisor in their absence and act as the Operations Center Radiation Protection Manager when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are the primary responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Deliver high-level technical expertise in health physics to manage operational and licensing challenges related to radiation exposure monitoring, radiological control, respiratory safety, and dose minimization. Assess program impacts and advise management on necessary adjustments. Act as the subject matter expert across multiple radiation protection disciplines.
  • Provide leadership and direction to fellow health physics staff, collaborating with management to strategize, develop, and implement key objectives. You may take the lead on projects or serve as a technical advisor.
  • Design, maintain, and enforce radiation safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements for the Radiation Protection Program. Conduct reviews and evaluations of departmental activities to adhere to federal, state, and industry regulations and standards. Identify, recommend, and execute corrective actions as necessary.
  • Analyze radiation protection performance data and exposure statistics to assess the effectiveness of the Radiation Protection Program. Generate technical documentation and reports based on data interpretation.
  • Utilize extensive technical knowledge to identify and resolve issues within radiological systems, recommend solutions, and monitor the progress of resolutions.
  • Lead assessment teams and prepare reports for management independently.
  • Examine and evaluate radiological program procedures, proposing and initiating enhancements to ensure the reliability and accuracy of equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report data on systems and instrumentation to provide management with a technical overview of operational status.
  • Support outage operations and participate as a member of the Emergency Response Organization.
  • Apply technical leadership to the program while mentoring other technical staff. Lead investigations into root causes of radiation protection issues.
  • Act as Radiological Support Supervisor in their absence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Principal Health Physicist
  • A high school diploma or GED with either NRRPT or American Board of Health Physics certification [Certified Health Physicist (CHP)] or 13 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • An Associate's degree in Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field with 11 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field with 9 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • A Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field with 7 years of experience in applied radiation protection.
Health Physics Staff Advisor III
  • A Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline with five years of experience in applied radiological work; OR
  • An Associate's degree in a technical field with an additional seven years of experience in applied radiation protection; OR
  • Four years of military nuclear experience plus five years of applied radiation protection experience; OR
  • Nine years of experience in applied radiation protection, with at least three years in a nuclear facility addressing radiological challenges similar to those in nuclear power plants.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
Health Physics Staff Advisor II
  • A Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in a technical environment, including two years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry; OR
  • An Associate's degree with five years of experience in a technical environment, including two years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry; OR
  • A high school diploma/GED with seven years of experience in a technical environment, including three years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry.
