POSITION OVERVIEW

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities in radiation safety and protection, including the analysis of plant issues, the development of licensing documentation, and the execution of significant radiation safety initiatives. The incumbent will engage with regulatory bodies, EPRI, and INPO, manage instrumentation and dosimetry assessments, oversee corrective actions, and drive performance enhancements. This position requires independent work and offers technical guidance and leadership within the designated area of expertise. The individual may also act as the Radiological Support Supervisor in the absence of the primary supervisor and serve as the Operations Center Radiation Protection Manager when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are the essential responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Deliver advanced technical expertise in health physics to address operational and licensing challenges related to radiation exposure monitoring, radiological control, respiratory safety, and dose minimization. Evaluate program implications and advise management on necessary modifications. Act as a subject matter expert across various radiation protection fields.
  • Provide leadership and direction to health physics staff, collaborating with management to establish, develop, and execute strategic goals. May take the lead on projects or serve as a technical consultant.
  • Design, implement, and maintain radiation protection programs, policies, and procedures that align with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements for the Radiation Protection Program. Conduct reviews and assessments of departmental activities to guarantee adherence to federal, state, and industry regulations and standards. Identify and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Analyze and assess performance data related to radiation protection and exposure metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the Radiation Protection Program. Prepare technical documentation and reports based on data analysis.
  • Utilize extensive technical knowledge to identify and address radiological system issues and negative trends, propose solutions, and monitor resolution progress.
  • Lead assessment teams and generate reports for management independently.
  • Review and enhance radiological program procedures to ensure the reliability and accuracy of equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and present data on systems and instrumentation to provide management with a technical overview of operational status.
  • Support outage operations and participate as a member of the Emergency Response Organization.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other technical staff, leading root cause analysis teams for radiation protection concerns.
  • Act as the Radiological Support Supervisor in their absence.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Principal Health Physicist
  • A high school diploma or GED and either NRRPT or American Board of Health Physics certification [Certified Health Physicist (CHP)] or 13 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • An Associate's degree in Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field and 11 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field and 9 years of experience in applied radiation protection. OR
  • A Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field and 7 years of experience in applied radiation protection.
Health Physics Staff Advisor III
  • A Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline and five years of experience in applied radiological work; OR
  • An Associate's degree in a technical field and an additional seven years of experience in applied radiation protection; OR
  • Four years of military nuclear experience plus five years of applied radiation protection experience; OR
  • Nine years of experience in applied radiation protection, with at least three years in a nuclear facility dealing with radiological challenges similar to those found in nuclear power plants.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
Health Physics Staff Advisor II
  • A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in a technical environment, including two years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry; OR
  • An Associate's degree and five years of experience in a technical environment, including two years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry; OR
  • A high school diploma/GED and seven years of experience in a technical environment, including three years in Radiation Protection or Chemistry.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary Range:

Principal Health Physicist: $119,107 - $178,661

Midpoint: $148,884

Health Physics Staff Advisor III: $103,563 - $155,345

Midpoint: $129,454

Health Physics Staff Advisor II: $90,048 - $135,072

Midpoint: $112,560

Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

Incentive Compensation

This role is eligible for participation in our annual incentive plan, with incentives based on employee performance against defined metrics and organizational goals.
