Job Summary

VNS Federal Services is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join our team. As an Industrial Hygiene Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical and programmatic field implementation of industrial hygiene program plans, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reports to the IH Program Manager and provides technical support to the Industrial Hygiene team.
  • Performs assigned industrial hygiene work scope, demonstrating technical competence and good judgment.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for topical areas as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Participates in monitoring the company's health standards in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in the work environment based on interpretations and principles of professional I/H practices.
  • Very proficient in all standard Industrial Hygiene tasks.
  • May provide leadership to less experienced industrial hygienists and technicians.
  • May be assigned special projects.
  • Independently determines and develops approaches and solutions to problems.
  • Assists others in developing and implementing programs for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards in project work areas.
  • Maintains data in various data capture systems.
  • Assists in generating reports, charts, and spreadsheets as needed.
  • Provides technical, administrative, and/or functional support to the Industrial Hygiene team.
  • Performs duties of a general/routine to moderately complex nature.
Accountabilities
  • Ensure industrial hygiene solutions meet specifications and performance requirements.
  • Ensure necessary documentation is generated to meet safety and industrial hygiene compliance requirements.
  • Maintain required qualifications for assigned role.
  • Contributes to a strong safety culture, including good industrial hygiene practices, conduct of operations, and implementation of ISMS.
Authorities
  • As delegated and qualified, reviews and approves industrial hygiene deliverables.
  • Reviews, approves, and communicates the results of industrial hygiene sample results.
  • Other authorities as delegated by Industrial Hygiene Project, Program, or Department manager.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and in a field setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Field conditions require the use of PPE and adherence to posted requirements.

Physical Demands
  • Lifts up to 30 pounds without assistance using appropriate safety and lifting methods.
  • Ability to work in harsh outdoor environments, including snow, rain, ice, and muddy conditions.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Radiological training is required.
  • Intermediate PC skills, including Microsoft software.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies, and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Travel
  • Limited to attendance at conferences and other continuing education training workshops.
