Overview

The Security Specialist role is a full-time position requiring the ability to work flexible hours and shifts suitable for a 24/7 security operation. The incumbent must be prepared to respond to work requests on short notice. This position is critical to the operation and necessitates attendance during all facility holidays, closures, and delays. The Security Specialist reports to the Security Program Manager and receives guidance from the Security Lieutenant and Shift Supervisor as necessary. Professionalism, initiative, diligence, and accountability are essential attributes for this role.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:
  • Responding to alarms, making notifications, and coordinating events as required. Security Specialists play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, visitors, and facilities by initiating emergency responses and management notifications. Each emergency situation demands appropriate actions to mitigate the event through effective communication and response.
  • Possessing strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to function in high-pressure situations requiring exceptional organizational skills.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for timely and appropriate support for security and safety-related incidents, executing the mission to safeguard national security interests, government property, and personnel on the campus.
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships with staff and management, including Operations Managers, Facility Managers, and Safety personnel.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of emergency response procedures, operating multi-line phone systems, two-way radios, campus surveillance systems, and documenting events through dispatch systems.
  • Acting as the single point of contact for emergencies and unusual events; initiating emergency responses such as fire, ambulance, and police.
  • Responding to security alarms and, if necessary, employing non-violent self-defense techniques to ensure personal and others' safety.
  • Providing coverage for other Security Specialists during scheduled and unscheduled absences.
  • Notifying management and staff during emergencies, adhering to established procedures.
  • Conducting safety and security inspections of facilities and providing escorts for personnel as needed.
  • Managing multiple equipment operations and their associated databases, including access control systems and fire alarms.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic Security Officer training (DOE NTC PFT 110).
  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Experience in military or law enforcement.
  • Current Q Clearance.
Working Conditions
  • Work may occur in controlled radiological areas.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • May involve responding to potentially hazardous situations.
Additional Information

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

* U.S. Citizenship

* Background Investigation: Selected applicants will undergo a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information.

*Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Candidates must demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for the 12 months preceding the completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

This position necessitates:
  • A valid state-issued driver's license.
  • The ability to perform all normal and emergency response duties safely and effectively.
  • Passing a pre-employment physical and psychological examination.
Testing Designated Position

This role is classified as a Testing Designated Position (TDP), subjecting the selected candidate to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal substances.
