The successful candidate will have broad human resources knowledge, expertise in strategic services, and a sophisticated approach to organizational leadership. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CHRO will provide executive-level guidance in all areas of human resources, working collaboratively across the institution to integrate high-quality services throughout all facets of the organization. The CHRO will facilitate change, ensure the Brookings workforce is engaged, flexible, and resilient, and differentiate the Institution in a competitive market.

The incoming leader will build upon the strengths of a dedicated human resources team, pursuing initiatives supporting an employee base of approximately 420 scholars and staff, 300 affiliates, and 125 yearly interns. The CHRO will maintain a productive relationship with the staff union, ensuring that the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement are understood, and empowering the human resources staff to address any issues.

The ideal candidate will be an innovative, highly driven executive with at least ten years of progressive human resources leadership experience at the director level or above. A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree and prior experience working in research, higher education, or non-profit organizations are preferred.
