Position Overview

The City of Reno is seeking a dedicated individual to oversee the Volunteer Program for the Victim Services Unit (VSU) within the Police Department. This role involves the development, promotion, and management of various volunteer opportunities aimed at supporting victims of crime.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage the daily operations of the VSU Volunteer/Outreach Program.
  2. Develop and execute strategies for recruiting, identifying, and selecting volunteers.
  3. Conduct orientations and training sessions for new volunteers.
  4. Assist in budget preparation and monitor financial expenditures.
  5. Organize volunteer recognition events and activities focused on crime victim awareness.
  6. Create educational materials and outreach initiatives to inform potential volunteers.
  7. Provide ongoing support and training to volunteers, ensuring they are well-informed about policies and procedures.
  8. Evaluate volunteer performance and address any issues that arise.
  9. Participate in the formulation of program goals and objectives.
  10. Prepare and present reports to various community groups regarding the VSU and victimization issues.
  11. Maintain accurate records and generate reports on volunteer activities.
  12. Manage social media content for the Victim Services Unit, ensuring timely updates and announcements.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess knowledge of volunteer program development, effective recruitment practices, and community resources. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment is crucial in this role.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with two years of experience in volunteer coordination or program administration. Relevant college coursework may substitute for experience.

Work Environment

This position involves both office and fieldwork, requiring travel to various locations. Candidates should be able to perform physical tasks associated with office work and community engagement.
