Role Responsibilities

The primary goal of the Project Safety Coordinator is to ensure a safe and healthy work environment while effectively managing the WPI Safety Program. This role fosters a collaborative and trusting atmosphere for all personnel involved.

  • Adhere to and uphold all WPI policies, procedures, and corporate safety protocols.
  • Guarantee full compliance with WPI Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Act as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) contact for the project.
  • Conduct safety and equipment training sessions and maintain accurate training records.
  • Oversee the incident investigation process to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and disseminate lessons learned.
  • Promote an injury-free workplace by nurturing positive relationships with office staff, project management, general contractors, subcontractors, and trade workers.
  • Implement the site-specific health and safety plan.
  • Assist the project foreperson in identifying and mitigating high-risk activities, including developing and reviewing job hazard analyses and pre-task plans.
  • Perform and document project safety audits, ensuring resolution of any noted action items and compliance with EHS Program, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Facilitate the implementation of work control permits and evaluation processes.
  • Engage proactively with General Contractor Safety Managers to achieve mutual safety culture improvements.
  • Oversee the onsite drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Participate in all required meetings.
QualificationsBasic Requirements
  • Possession of one of the following Board of Certified Safety Professionals designations: CST, CHST, OHST, STS-C, ASP.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant project safety experience on projects of similar scale and construction type.
Minimum Requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of EHS programs, practices, and regulations applicable to the project.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and address conflicts with guidance.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Capability to multitask, think critically, and solve problems.
  • Independence in decision-making and follow-through on assignments.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in computer use, with a high level of competency in reading, writing, and speaking English, as well as interpreting safety documentation.

  • Local candidates are preferred.
