Hill AFB, United States BAE Systems USA Full time

Job Overview

BAE Systems USA is looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the Air Force's innovative Sentinel ICBM Program, which is pivotal in modernizing the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system.

The Sentinel initiative is a significant and intricate Mega-Project aimed at overhauling the existing ICBM infrastructure, which spans vast territories across multiple states. This undertaking is recognized as one of the Department of Defense's most critical acquisition projects for the foreseeable future, involving the refurbishment or replacement of numerous aging Minuteman III facilities to support a newly designed, advanced ballistic missile system. The project encompasses a comprehensive command and control system overhaul, including updated airborne launch capabilities and a wide range of specialized support equipment designed for long-term operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will be integral to the Command & Launch (C&L) Division, focusing on the acquisition of command and control capabilities for the next generation of ICBMs. Responsibilities include:

  • Development of weapon system command and control interfaces, including missile crew launch consoles and data processing equipment.
  • Management of ICBM nuclear codes and cryptography to ensure the security and integrity of launch commands.
  • Oversight of ICBM targeting processes for strategic missile aim points.
  • Coordination of nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) systems for receiving presidential orders.
  • Establishment of command pathways for reliable voice and data transmission.
  • Support for airborne launch control capabilities on designated aircraft.
  • Design and assessment of actuation and mechanical systems, including missile suspension and closure systems.
  • Evaluation of power distribution and endurance systems at launch facilities.
  • Implementation of physical security measures at launch sites.

This position will involve collaboration with government clients to review and assess designs, documentation, and engineering products related to mechanical and actuation systems, power distribution, and security systems for the Sentinel launch facilities.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics is required, along with a minimum of 7 years of engineering experience (5 years with a Master’s degree), including at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.

Applicants must possess a current Secret security clearance or higher and be eligible for a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Department of Defense weapon system acquisition programs is advantageous. Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is a plus. Experience in evaluating structural, electrical, or HVAC designs is also beneficial. Proficiency in engineering tools and office software is desirable.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this full-time position is competitive and based on market pay structures, taking into account various factors such as qualifications and experience. BAE Systems offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, and various leave programs.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

BAE Systems is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
