BAE Systems USA is in search of a skilled Mechanical Engineer to engage in a significant role supporting the U.S. Air Force's development of the next-generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system, recognized as the Sentinel ICBM Program.

The Sentinel initiative represents a vast and intricate Mega-Project aimed at overhauling the entire ICBM arsenal deployed across extensive territories in multiple states. It stands as one of the Department of Defense's (DoD) most critical acquisition endeavors for the foreseeable future, entailing a comprehensive refurbishment or replacement of over five hundred aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities. This project is designed to secure and maintain a newly-engineered, technologically-advanced ballistic missile system, alongside a complete overhaul of command and control systems and a wide range of essential support equipment specifically tailored for the new weapon system's operational longevity.

Position Responsibilities:

This role will directly contribute to the Command & Launch (C&L) Division of the Sentinel Program, focusing on the acquisition of command and control capabilities for the next-generation ICBM. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Development of weapon system command and control interfaces (e.g., missile crew launch consoles and command data processing systems).
  • Management of ICBM nuclear codes and cryptographic security (ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of critical commands).
  • Oversight of ICBM targeting processes (strategic missile aim point processing).
  • Implementation of Nuclear Command, Control & Communications (NC3) systems (national communication systems for receiving presidential launch orders).
  • Establishment of ICBM command pathways (including hardline and RF networks for command transmission).
  • Development of airborne launch control capabilities (secondary launch options aboard command aircraft).
  • Design and analysis of actuation and mechanical systems (e.g., missile suspension systems, closure mechanisms, and gas generators).
  • Management of power distribution and endurance systems (e.g., backup generators and HVAC systems).
  • Enhancement of physical security systems (e.g., motion and visual sensors).

As a member of the C&L team, you will be tasked with supporting the government client in the Launch Systems Branch by reviewing and evaluating the prime contractor's designs, documentation, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) outputs related to mechanical and actuation systems, power distribution, and security systems.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics is mandatory.

A minimum of 7 years of engineering experience (5 years with a Master’s degree) is required, with at least 3 years in a role providing technical leadership.

Must possess a current Secret security clearance or higher and be eligible for a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) weapon system acquisition programs is advantageous.

Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts or Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) is beneficial.

Experience in evaluating facility designs related to structural, electrical, or HVAC systems is a plus.

Proficiency with engineering tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture and DOORS is desirable, along with strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with government and company personnel, are essential.
