Mammography Specialist in Radiology

Overview:

The Mammography Technologist plays a crucial role in executing a range of mammographic examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care. Effective communication and professional conduct are essential to align with the core values and mission of Christus Health.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the designated OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Conduct various mammographic examinations utilizing independent judgment to ensure high-quality patient care, consistently demonstrating excellent film critique skills.

• Operate an array of radiographic and ancillary equipment, including mammographic, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy machines, along with mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment as required.

• Safeguard patients from unnecessary radiation exposure by employing lead shields and adhering to safety protocols.

• Select appropriate film sizes, collimate, and position equipment accurately to achieve clear and diagnostic radiographs.

• Assist radiologists in performing fluoroscopic procedures by setting the necessary radiographic technique parameters, preparing and administering contrast media, and positioning patients for required exposures.

• Maintain mammography equipment and its components, ensuring emergency supplies are replenished as needed, and that necessary materials for mammographic screenings, diagnostics, and surgical procedures are readily available.

• Recognize abnormal anatomy and pathological conditions to assess patients for suitable procedures.

• Ensure Quality Control/Quality Assurance compliance with MQSA programs and ACR, FDA, and TDH standards, maintaining organized documentation for potential inspections.

• Exhibit competence in delivering patient care that meets the specific and developmental needs of the diverse patient population served by the department.

• Adapt patient assessment and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each individual.

• Demonstrate commitment to the CORE VALUES of Christus Health.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:


• Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology program or an equivalent recognized institution is required.

Experience:


• 1 to 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology is preferred.


• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Mammography.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:


• Registered by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiography and Mammography is required.


• Current state licensure is required.


• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required.
