Overview:
The Mammography Technologist plays a crucial role in executing a diverse range of mammographic examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care. The individual must exhibit behavior and communication skills that reflect the mission, values, and culture of Christus Health.
Key Responsibilities:
• Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Conduct various mammographic examinations using independent judgment to ensure high-quality patient care, consistently demonstrating excellent judgment in film evaluation.
• Operate an array of radiographic and auxiliary equipment, including mammographic, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy machines, as well as mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic devices as required.
• Safeguard patients from unnecessary radiation exposure by utilizing lead shields and adhering to safety protocols.
• Select appropriate film sizes, collimate, and position equipment at the correct distance and angle to produce clear, undistorted diagnostic images.
• Assist the radiologist in executing and producing various fluoroscopic procedures by adjusting the necessary radiographic technique factors, preparing and administering the required opaque media, and positioning patients for the necessary exposures.
• Oversee the maintenance of mammography equipment and components, ensuring emergency trays and supplies are replenished as needed. Maintain an adequate supply for Mammographic Screening, Diagnostic, and Surgical procedures.
• Recognize abnormal anatomy and pathological processes to assess patients for the appropriate procedures.
• Maintain Quality Control/Quality Assurance in compliance with MQSA programs and ACR, FDA, and TDH standards and regulations. Ensure all documentation is accurately recorded and organized for immediate inspection if required.
• Demonstrate the capability to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the specific population and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
• Appropriately modify assigned patient assessments, treatments, and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
• Exhibit adherence to the CORE VALUES of Christus Health.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
• Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology program or an equivalent recognized institution is required.
Experience:
• 1 to 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology is preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Mammography.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
• Registered by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography and Mammography is required.
• Current state licensure is required.
• Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification is required.
