Overview:

The Mammography Technologist plays a crucial role in executing a diverse range of mammographic examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care. The professional's conduct and communication must reflect the core values and mission of Christus Health.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the designated OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Conduct various mammographic examinations using independent judgment to ensure high-quality patient care, consistently demonstrating excellent judgment in image evaluation.

• Operate an array of radiographic and auxiliary equipment, including mammographic, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy machines, along with mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic devices as required.

• Safeguard patients from unnecessary radiation exposure by utilizing lead shields and adhering to safety protocols.

• Select appropriate film sizes, collimate, and position equipment accurately relative to the patient's anatomy to generate clear, diagnostic images.

• Assist radiologists in performing fluoroscopic procedures by setting necessary radiographic technique parameters, preparing and administering contrast media, and positioning patients for required exposures.

• Responsible for the upkeep of mammography equipment and supplies; ensure emergency trays and materials are replenished as necessary. Maintain an adequate inventory for Mammographic Screening, Diagnostic, and Surgical procedures.

• Recognize abnormal anatomical structures and pathological conditions when assessing patients for suitable procedures.

• Maintain Quality Control/Quality Assurance in compliance with MQSA programs and standards set by ACR, FDA, and TDH. Ensure all documentation is meticulously recorded and organized for potential inspection.

• Exhibit competency in performing patient care responsibilities that align with the specific developmental and population needs of the patients served by the department.

• Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.

• Demonstrate commitment to the CORE VALUES of Christus Health.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:


• Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology program or an equivalent approved institution is required.

Experience:


• 1 to 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology is preferred.


• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Mammography.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:


• Must be registered with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiography and Mammography.


• Current state licensure is required.


• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required.
