Overview:

The Breast Imaging Specialist is tasked with executing a diverse range of mammographic examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care. Effective communication and professional conduct must reflect the core values and mission of CHRISTUS Health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts various mammographic examinations utilizing independent judgment to ensure high-quality patient care, consistently demonstrating excellent film evaluation skills.
  • Operates an array of radiographic and auxiliary equipment, including mammography, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy machines, as well as mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic devices as required.
  • Safeguards patients from unnecessary radiation exposure by employing lead shields and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Selects appropriate film sizes, collimates, and positions equipment accurately to achieve clear, undistorted diagnostic images.
  • Assists the radiologist in executing and documenting a variety of fluoroscopic procedures by setting the necessary radiographic parameters, preparing and administering contrast media, and positioning patients for required exposures.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of mammography equipment and supplies, ensuring that emergency trays and materials are replenished as necessary. Maintains an adequate inventory for mammographic screenings, diagnostics, and surgical procedures.
  • Identifies abnormal anatomical structures and pathological conditions to determine the appropriate procedures for patient assessment.
  • Maintains Quality Control/Quality Assurance in compliance with MQSA programs and standards set by ACR, FDA, and TDH. Ensures all documentation is meticulously recorded and organized for potential inspection.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform patient care responsibilities that meet the specific and developmental needs of the patient population served by the department.
  • Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and age-specific needs of each individual.
  • Exemplifies adherence to the CORE VALUES of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technology program or an equivalent recognized institution required.

Experience:
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in Mammography.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
  • Registered with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiography and Mammography required.
  • Current state licensure required.
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.
