PROGRAM INITIATIVES

Our operational programs, such as the acclaimed Red Hook Community Justice Center, focus on innovative strategies to address systemic challenges within the justice framework. These initiatives encompass community-based violence prevention, alternatives to incarceration, and reentry support, all aimed at fostering positive change and enhancing community safety.

RESEARCH EFFORTS

Our research teams, composed of social scientists and legal experts, engage in comprehensive studies on various justice-related issues, including court reform and restorative justice. Their goal is to provide actionable insights that can inform policy and practice within the communities we serve.

POLICY SUPPORT

The Center offers tailored assistance to jurisdictions seeking to implement reforms in areas such as problem-solving courts and reducing reliance on incarceration. Our expert support includes data analysis, strategic planning, and operational guidance.

SUPPORT FUNCTIONS

A dedicated support team ensures seamless operations across finance, legal, technology, and human resources, providing essential infrastructure that aligns with our mission.

POSITION SUMMARY

In light of recent legislative reforms in New York State, the Center has expanded its Supervised Release Program (SRP), which provides alternatives to pretrial detention through supervision and case management. The Pretrial Services Training Specialist will be an integral part of the SRP Court Reform team, reporting to the Pretrial Services Training Coordinator.

The Training Specialist will play a crucial role in the onboarding and ongoing education of program staff, requiring a blend of program knowledge, administrative skills, and exceptional facilitation abilities. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Pretrial Services Training Coordinator and other team members to create and maintain a comprehensive training calendar for onboarding and professional development.
  • Assisting in the development of training materials and practical tools for staff.
  • Coordinating communication regarding training opportunities across various platforms.
  • Facilitating program-specific training sessions and ensuring consistency in delivery across different sites.
  • Managing relationships with external experts for training development and logistics.
  • Tracking attendance and completion of training programs, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Collecting and analyzing feedback from training evaluations to continuously improve training quality.
  • Maintaining training contract information and collaborating with relevant departments for compliance.
  • Performing additional tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or a related mental health field with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with five years of experience.
  • Experience in clinical or case management roles within pretrial services or court settings.
  • At least two years of experience in training, teaching, or supervisory roles, preferably in pretrial services.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • A commitment to cultural responsiveness and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use issues, or homelessness.
  • A proactive, goal-oriented approach with strong initiative and teamwork capabilities.

POSITION TYPE: Full-time; in-person attendance required.
