Clinical Coordinator for Jail Diversion and Population Review

The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Jail Diversion Clinical Coordinator to join our team in a groundbreaking systemic reform initiative. As a key member of our Jail Population Review Program, you will play a critical role in identifying incarcerated individuals with behavioral health issues who may be eligible for pre-trial release and alternative to incarceration programming.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct Psychosocial Evaluations: Provide thorough psychosocial evaluations based on clinical interviews, self-reported measures, and/or review of records for incarcerated individuals with diverse diagnostic presentations.
- Screening and Referral: Assist with reviewing screening information and medical records from Correctional Health Services to identify individuals currently at Rikers Island who may be eligible for pretrial diversion, and refer them to appropriate community-based services.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinate and collaborate with all legal stakeholders, including prosecutors, defense attorneys, the New York State Unified Court System, Department of Correction, Correctional Health Services, and community-based alternative to detention and alternative to incarceration programs.
- Troubleshooting and Process Improvement: Troubleshoot operational, procedural, and administrative challenges as they arise to advance the clinical review process simultaneously with the legal process and reduce delays in jail diversion.
- Presentations and Communication: Present clinical information and treatment recommendations to legal stakeholders, as needed, and participate in regular team meetings and clinical supervision.
- LMSW required with 3-4 years direct practice experience, LCSW preferred.
- Experience in court-based direct practice strongly preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and/or homelessness is a plus.
- Ability to engage with differing and, at times, competing stakeholder perspectives.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
