Manufacturing Group Leader

I. Overview

The Manufacturing Group Leader oversees Team Leaders and team members within the designated manufacturing area (such as assembly, injection molding, welding, etc.) to ensure the successful execution of group responsibilities.

This role is accountable for managing the manufacturing line or area as an operational unit, achieving company objectives while adhering to all policies, Toyota Production System standards, and safety protocols.


II. Key Responsibilities:
A. Supervisory Duties
  • Lead the hiring and placement of team members in collaboration with the Assistant Manager. Monitor staffing levels, work hours, and training.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and practices, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Evaluate team member performance and recommend training or corrective measures as needed.
  • Foster positive relations among team members, emphasizing trust, respect, and teamwork.
  • Motivate team members to prioritize safety, quality, and productivity.
B. Operational Leadership

Responsible for maintaining the manufacturing system within the assigned area, achieving departmental goals, and adhering to schedules.

  • Apply Toyota Production System techniques to standardize processes and eliminate waste.
  • Develop standardized work procedures to optimize efficiency.
  • Direct the work of Team Leaders and team members based on production requirements.
  • Ensure effective application of Toyota Boshoku Business Practices to address sub-standard conditions.
  • Perform essential functions of team leaders or members as necessary.
C. Quality and Safety Management
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and inventory levels, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and utilize feedback systems effectively.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to address quality issues.
  • Proactively identify and resolve safety and production challenges.
  • Evaluate machinery and equipment issues and coordinate repairs.
D. Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Set Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and update departmental KPI boards and initiate improvement activities.
  • Lead safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects.
  • Encourage team members to contribute ideas for enhancements.
E. Safety Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in safety audits and ergonomic assessments.
  • Monitor team member safety and well-being.
F. Training and Development
  • Oversee training for team members, ensuring effective onboarding and cross-training.
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with performance standards.
  • Develop training plans to enhance team member skills.
G. Documentation and Reporting
  • Collect and analyze data related to departmental activities.
  • Prepare reports on production, quality, and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of team member attendance and training.
H. Communication
  • Facilitate communication among team members and other departments.
  • Coordinate shift communications to ensure operational efficiency.
III. Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of relevant manufacturing experience required.
  • At least two years of leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and analytical skills.
